Precepts
The practice of taking the eight Mahayana precepts (special vows of pure moral discipline), and keeping them purely for a period of twenty-four hours, is a powerful method to purify our mind and accumulate a vast amount of merit.
We take the precepts early in the morning, usually at 6.30am and on that day eat only once, at lunchtime, while observing pure moral discipline for the remainder of the day and avoiding distractions.
This practice must first be done by taking the precepts from a qualified Preceptor, but after that can be taken on our own whenever we wish.
Precepts are granted by our resident teacher, Kelsang Gakyi, on the 15th of each month whenever possible. See our calendar for the next opportunity.
